Ashwini Ramaswamy & Jace Clayton
2017.18 Liquid Music artists in virtual residence
“Jace Clayton, a.k.a. DJ /Rupture, is a one-man musical Venn diagram, linking up genres, people, styles, and beats.” —New York Magazine
"Ms. Ramaswamy imbues her refined, sculptural muscularity with a tranquility that contrasts with the springy exuberance of her feet. Within each articulation is the sense that there is breath — or a continual flow of energy — coursing through her limbs." – The New York Times
Liquid Music’s Virtual Residency program continues in the 2017.18 season with a project that brings together Minneapolis-based Bharatanatyam dancer/choreographer Ashwini Ramaswamy, celebrated for her ability to “[weave] together, both fearfully and joyfully, the human and the divine” (New York Times), and composer/DJ/author and “pan-global, post-everything superhero” (Wire), Jace Clayton. Using a shared love of literature and interest in artistic explorations of social memory as a starting point, the two artists will develop an original work for its world premiere in Liquid Music's 2018.19 season. Audiences will be able to follow their creative process on the Liquid Music blog as Ramaswamy and Clayton share behind-the-scenes insight into their collaboration.
